Welcome to Aglish

Aglish is centrally located between Cappoquin, Youghal and Dungarvan,  in the heart of the Blackwater Valley.  Taking the road to Cappoquin brings you along the beautiful Dromana Drive, ending at the Hindu-Gothic Dromana Gate. Nestled in the Comeragh Mountains above Cappoquin is the world-renowned Mount Mellory Abbey and Grotto. Other places of interest in the Comeraghs include Mahon Falls and the spectacular panoramic views of South Tipperary from the Vee.

Waterford’s Copper coast is renowned for its blue flag beaches stretching from Tramore to Dungarvan, offering crystal clean bathing areas. Dungarvan is also the starting place for the Waterford Greenway, the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland.  

The Gaeltacht area of Ring, between Dungarvan and Youghal is a mere 20 minutes’ drive. Gaeilge, the Irish language, is the everyday spoken language of the local people here.

The beautiful historical town of Lismore is less than 10 miles from the cottage. Lismore Castle and Gardens attract thousands of visitors every year. The castle was once owned by Sir Walter Raleigh, the man who brought potatoes to Ireland. Its current owner is the Duke of Devonshire. The ninth Duke married Adele Astaire, Fred Astaire’s sister. The heir to the tenth Dukedom married Kathleen Kennedy, JFK’s sister. Prince Charles, Lucian Freud, Fred Astaire and JFK all stayed here.

The quaint village of Ardmore, with its beach are Round Tower are nearbye and further afield, Waterford City is home to Waterford Glass and the historical Viking Triangle.
